Residents in Ashburn’s Loudoun Valley Estates are fighting a Dominion Energy proposal to route the Golden-to-Mars 500 kV transmission line (Route 3A) directly through or behind their properties, mainly to power expanding data centers in the Dulles corridor. Concerned homeowners say the line’s massive towers will dramatically alter the suburb’s aesthetic, reduce property values, and pose safety and health concerns, especially for those with children.
Dominion initially pitched Route 3, but after the school board rejected it, shifted to Route 3A, affecting approximately seven homes, with even larger nearby impacts. Neighbors have launched a petition (“nopowerlines.org”) and are urging the State Corporation Commission (SCC) to use alternative pathways or underground options. They’ve also been encouraged to attend upcoming SCC hearings in September.
