Pipeline Explosion Injured Two
A pipeline in Louisiana exploded, causing around 60 homes in the proximity of the fire to evacuate. The blast injured two workers, while another is presumed dead. The pipeline carries natural gas liquids and extends from Venice to Paradis, Louisiana. The pipeline operator, Phillips 66, stated the pipeline had been blocked off during the explosion, while the remaining product continued to burn throughout the night.
Six workers were cleaning the pipeline when the explosion transpired. Two contractors with severe burns were taken to a nearby hospital. One was eventually flown for treatment to a specialized burn unit in Baton Rouge. Authorities are unsure what caused the irate fire, but suggest it could be a gasket or valve failure. At this time, the investigation continues until the reason behind the detonation is determined.
